At least 40 Vermont communities will vote on Town Meeting Day
whether to replace the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant.Organizer Bob Bady of Brattleboro expects more towns to take up
the issue at the end of their meetings in March.
The nonbinding resolution calls for Entergy Nuclear to fully fund
the plant's decommissioning fund, which contains only one-third of the
money needed to close and clean up the reactor.
Last spring, Gov. Jim Douglas vetoed a similar measure, saying it
was anti-business and would increase power costs.
