Officials: Plant Radiation Monitors Need Repair

Concerns are being raised that not all the radiation monitors
at the Oyster Creek nuclear power plant in Lacey are in proper working order.Department of Environmental Protection officials say three of
the 19 radiation monitors have not worked for more than a year and that
occasionally all 19 monitors are out of service at the same time.
DEP officials stress that there are other ways to measure
radiation and that the faulty monitors do not place the public at risk.
The devices are meant to help detect and track any radiation
release from the plant and determine who should be evacuated.
DEP officials tell the Asbury Park Press that they're working on
fixing the problem. Critics say they're concerned that budget cuts may
affect repairs.
