Entergy Suspends Applications for Nuclear Licenses
January 9, 2009
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Entergy Corp. has suspended its application for licenses to build and operate new nuclear power generators in Mississippi and Louisiana.
In a statement Friday, Entergy said it had temporarily deferred environmental reviews related to its applications before the federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission for second nuclear reactors at the Grand Gulf Power Plant near Port Gibson, Miss., and at River Bend Station at St. Francisville, La.
The New Orleans-based power provider had repeatedly said it had not decided whether to build a plant or at which location.
Entergy, which also has customers in Texas, says it will look for other means of generating electricity.
